The SIPAIM Foundation organized the “International Symposium on Medical Information Processing and Analysis - SIPAIM” (https://sipaim.org/). The 17th edition of this year 2021 was held in the city of Campinas (Brazil), in conjunction with the Medical Instrumentation and Imaging Symposium - SIIM, bringing together researchers from Latin America and the world to communicate the results of their research, developments and experience in the health sector and promote the creation of scientific and technical collaboration networks.
From the GITECX research group of the Universidad de los Llanos and its research hotbed AdaLab, Professor Ángel Cruz-Roa, Ph.D, and one of his students, Fabian Cano, a graduate of the Systems Engineering program and now a student at the Master in Biomedical Engineering from the National University of Colombia, presented his advances in works related to the differentiation of lung cancer subtypes and the exploration of semi-supervised learning models for the classification of breast cancer tissues in co-authorship with Prof. . Cruz. His main paper “A supervised subtype differentiation learning for building invariant features of non-small cell lung cancer in a latent space of a Variational Autoencoder” was accepted as a paper, while the paper “Analysis of a semi-supervised learning algorithm of self-training based on convolutional neural networks in breast cancer histopathology image” was accepted as a poster. Fabián shared the results of his research and continues to work on this line of research, in addition to supporting the project "Implementation of a Network for Research, Technological Development and Innovation in Digital Pathology (RedPat) supported by Industry 4.0 technologies in Meta" .
