Artificial intelligence would reduce time to diagnose cancer

The news agency of the National University published this June 21 of this year, a note on the advances in the development of the RedPat project and the first results in the Empathy platform, which is the tool for visualization of medical images. In this article they interviewed the co-investigator, Professor Eduardo Romero Castro of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging of the Faculty of Medicine of the UNAL, who explains that "the processing of this medical information has been little explored in Colombia and provides the opportunity to have consolidated data sets for research, not only with the digitized images, but also with the prognosis, follow-up and clinical information of the patient". In addition, it was highlighted that the Universidad de los Llanos and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia have acquired commercial scanners, technology that allows digitizing histological slides in a faster way. She also had the opportunity to be interviewed the PhD student Charlems Alvarez, who is part of one of the six graduate students who are part of the RedPat project, where she shared that this work of the development of the platform and the viewer, is being advanced by the research groups CIM@LAB (UNAL) and the group GITECX (Unillanos). The project is being carried out with resources from the Science and Technology and Innovation Fund of the General System of Royalties, in a collaborative manner by UNAL, Unillanos, the National University Hospital (HUN) and the Departmental Hospital of Villavicencio.
